she pulled out er most precious possession, an incomplete New Testament consisting of a mere 5books - Luke, John, Acts & the two letters to the Corinthians. it had taken numerous nights & long hours to copy every single character by hand, but it had been worth it. it was to her as if Jesus himself were sitting there beside her, conversin with her face to face.
she was grateful for the person or persons (she still didn't know which) who had managed somehow to keep hidden even these books throughout the tumultuous Cultural Revolution & so save them from the fires. otherwise she would be sitting there with literally nothing in her hands. Lili knew that there were many other believers who felt the same way she did, who were starving for knowledge of the Bible. in the madness & chaos of recent times, it was the only truth that had meaning to them, that cultivated life and inspired purpose. converts that were mainly farmers, peasants, the simple country folk clamoured to her, begging her to make copies for them as soon as they found out that she could write. Writer's cramp set in long before she had completed her furious rewriting of four more editions, yet demand remained great. she could not go on this way. finally she undertook to engage more scribes, namely her school friends who became christians.
